How to Handle the Ginormous

How do you eat an elephant?

Yes, an elephant; you know that massive gray creature that weighs tons and is bigger than a tiny house?

(Stop for a second and think about your response before proceeding.)

Now, some might say, “Eat an elephant? That’s impossible!”

While others might respond, "That's easy… one bite at a time!"

So, what does eating an elephant have to do with anything?

A lot, because how you answer this question tells a great deal about how you view life and ultimately how you view God.

Jesus said, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." ~ Luke 18:27

Do you believe in the God of the impossible?

When life throws you a curve ball, when you go through a season of disappointment or your dreams are unrealized what do you do?

Throw a pity party? Become bitter and cynical with no hope for tomorrow or believe that things will never get better?

Are you looking at today’s problems like an enormous immovable elephant in the room or are you focusing on the power of the almighty God who spoke creation into existence?

It is possible to rise above adverse circumstances and when despair and sadness begin to creep into your life- LOOK TO GOD’S WORD FOR THE SOLUTION!

As for God, his way is perfect:

The Lord’s word is flawless;

he shields all who take refuge in him. ~Psalm 18:30

Your word is a lamp for my feet,

a light on my path. ~Psalm 119:105

God’s word can produce contentment and peace in your life and calm your fears. It can give you abounding strength to face any adversity. It can shed light on an impossible situation and offer solutions. It can correct wrong thoughts and breathe truth into your heart.

Even when life is good, God’s word is still essential. Did you know that the time you invest in reading and studying God's word, along with faithful prayers, are preparing and equipping you to handle future adversities?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

We spend so much of our time devoted to reading the news, reading for pleasure, reading social media and looking for answers in all the wrong places that we miss out on the real truth. We even look to Google searches to seek out answers to our questions and problems.

Ironic and sad that we struggle in life and have the owner’s manual at our fingertips (authored by our very own Creator) and yet, we refuse to read it!

Have you ever wondered why God even gave us his Word?

Could it be- it is the owner's manual to your life? That cracking it open and looking to it first (as the authority) you may just find that life is easier, it runs better for longer and problems can be fixed rather than always struggling and feeling overwhelmed?

The next time you find yourself faced with a ginormous elephant of a problem looming in your life- don’t be discouraged or believe it is impossible to overcome.

Rather, pick up your Bible and take one bite at a time.

Pretty soon you will see that God does the impossible and your problems aren’t as big as you think!

Thank you Lord that you are bigger than any problem that we may face in this life. You are a God of the impossible and it is through your great love for us that you gave us your Word. Your Word is true, alive and relevant. May we learn to seek solutions in your Word over what the world my offer resulting in peace and strength.

In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? ~Psalm 56:4
