Dark Places

Have you ever lost something, and it drove you crazy trying to find it?

You know you had it and can’t for the life of you remember where you placed it and turn the entire house upside down, searching- high and low and nothing.

Been there.

It was during one extensive “scavenger hunt” that I discovered a profound truth… light makes all the difference!

I had searched under my sofa numerous times and found nothing. The moment I bring in a high-powered flashlight everything changes! Magically, the lost key comes gleaming into view (along with a few gnawed dog toys, a broken nail file and a blanket of shimmering dust!)

What a difference the light made; everything was there before but somehow invisible to my feeble eyes.

I know this isn’t a groundbreaking idea, but somehow, we overlook the significance (particularly when we consider the visibility in our lives) that it is light that illuminates the dark places and makes it possible to clearly see.

But, let’s be honest, in many areas we prefer to stay in the dark. It feels safe and comfortable – a place that we can hide and pretend all is right with the world. A place that we don’t have to see the truth.

Yet, we were made to live in the light. Have you considered the benefits that light brings: vision, Vitamin D production, circadian rhythm, melatonin for skin protection and serotonin for mood enhancements. Sunlight has the power to heal and can provide health and restoration to our body and soul.

Conversely, living in both physical and spiritual darkness is never beneficial because darkness breeds confusion, disorientation, despair, depression and it blinds us from the truth.

The Bible is clear on the source of true light:

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8:12

“Now the message that we have heard from his Son and announce is this: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him. If, then, we say that we have fellowship with him, yet at the same time live in the darkness, we are lying both in our words and in our actions. But if we live in the light—just as he is in the light—then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.” ~1 John 1:5-7

Jesus is the light of this world. He brings light and deliverance into our lives by leading us through the darkness and by shining the light of truth into the dark recesses of our hearts.

God can illuminate ALL our dark places!

Invite Him to search you, to shine the light of truth into the dark places of your life. You too, can be found and any darkness that hinders you can be banished!

Who knows, amongst cobwebs and dust, a whole new world may be revealed wherein you can flourish in the light of His healing love.

Just remember... there is no healing or revealation found by hiding in the dark.

Thank you, Lord, for your amazing grace. You are the light of the world that rescues us from the darkness. We once were lost but you found us, we once were blind, but you gave us sight. You are the only light we need. Thank you for shining your light into our lives, providing a clear path for our feet and a healed heart for our soul.

“You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light.” ~ 2 Samuel 22:29
